Adf1nal/Adf1le60 animals routinely survive to adulthood. About 75% of homozygotes die as mature embryos. The remaining 25% hatch and manifest behavioural responses, such as forward and backward locomotion to tactile stimuli. These animals are sluggish, fail to grow normally, and die before the third instar larval stage. In late stage homozygotes, development of the central nervous system the peripheral nervous system, and trachea appears normal. In tests for 1 day and seven day memory retention, the former is found to be normal in these mutants, but the long term seven day memory is found to be abolished.
