Clones in the eye results in rhabdomeres that are often at least twice the size of wild-type. This phenotype is cell-autonomous; mosaic ommatidia with mixed wild type and disrupted rhabdomeres are seen. Mutant ommatidia in third instar eye discs appear wild type. Ommatidia may also lack photoreceptor cells.
