Description

Could drive expression of an anti-sense RNA to the 5' most 1kb of the chic pre-RNA (or drive expression of eIF-4a, situated 1.8kb away).

The P{EP} element is inserted 1.7 kb 5' to the predicted mRNA start.

The P{EP}eIF-4a^EP1011 insertion maps within chic. The insertion is also just upstream of eIF-4a, in the right orientation to drive overexpression of eIF-4a in the presence of a Scer\GAL4 driver.

Expression via Scer\GAL4^fkh.PH results in strongly penetrant gland shape/lumen ('shepherd's crook') and positioning ('hook') phenotypes in the embryonic salivary gland.

Mutant larvae expressing eIF-4a^EP1011 under the control of Scer\GAL4^elav-C155 have reduced or abnormal synapses. Mutant larvae expressing eIF-4a^EP1011 under the control of Scer\GAL4^elav-C155 have ISN neuron pathfinding defects.
