      Homozygotes do not show the formation of melanotic tumours. Gaps in somatic pairing are seen in the polytene chromosomes of heterozygous salivary glands. Heterozygotes show resistance to 5mM hydroxyurea but not to 1mM methyl methanesulfonate.
