Homozygous larvae appear to be arrested at the first instar stage. They fail to increase in size or and die 2-3 days after hatching without any morphological defects. Females containing homozygous germline clones do not produce eggs. The phenotype of ovaries from these females suggests that homozygous ovarioles are blocked at or before stage 6. Homozygous clones induced in the wing at approximately 80-96 hours after egg laying (AEL) are found, and there is a linear relationship between the number of homozygous and wild-type twin spot cells. Homozygous clones induced at approximately 64-80 hours AEL are found but are usually smaller than twin-spot clones. Virtually no homozygous clones induced at approximately 48-60 hours AEL are observed.
