The expression of crbextraTM.UAS.GFP under the control of Scer\GAL4ninaE.PTa induces rhabdomere loss in the ommatidium and large cyst-like expansions of the interrhabdomeral space, suggesting a dramatic overgrowth of the stalk membrane.

crb11A22 mutants expressing crbextraTM.UAS.GFP under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PU show ommatidium defects, with a 'fused rhabdomere' phenotype; one week of continuous light exposure (light stress) induces more severe photoreceptor cell defects, including occasional cell death, as compared to wild-type controls.

Expression of crbextraTM.Scer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP under the control of Scer\GAL4nub.PU results in a significant reduction in adult wing size, and loss of crossveins in the wing, as compared to controls.

Expression of crbextraTM.Scer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP under the control of Scer\GAL4ey.PH fully rescues the crb11A22 head overgrowth phenotype.

Over-expression of crbextraTM.Scer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP but not crbextra.Scer\UAS or crbintra.Scer\UAS causes expansion of the photoreceptor cell stalk membrane similar to that seen with crbScer\UAS.cWa.

Co-expression of ebiScer\UAS.Exel, but not ebiΔWD7-8.Scer\UAS, partially suppresses the reduced wing size seen in flies expressing crbextraTM.Scer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP under the control of Scer\GAL4nub.PU.

Comments

Expression of crbextraTM.Scer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP under the control of Scer\GAL4nullo.PG fails to rescue the defects in cell shape which is seen in the dorsal cells of crb11A22 embryos.

Expression of crbextraTM.Scer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP under the control of Scer\GAL4ey.PH fully rescues the crb11A22 head overgrowth phenotype.
