      Assayed in D.melanogaster and D.simulans. When constructs carrying D.melanogaster Adh and D.simulans Dsim\Adh genes are put in the same genetic background there is no detectable difference in their expression. The level is relatively high in the D.melanogaster background and relatively low in the D.simulans background. Therefore the interspecific difference in Adh gene expression is due to trans-acting modifiers.
