Homozygous females have an intermediate mutant ovary phenotype; the females are semi-sterile to sterile and ovaries have an irregular shape and are substantially smaller than normal. The ovaries contains a reduced number of ovarioles that are abnormally oriented. Homozygotes have an intermediate mutant leg phenotype.

bab2^E4/Df(3L)bab^Ar07 flies have ectopic sex combs on tarsal segment 2 (7-8 bristles) and tarsal segment 3 (3-4 bristles) and show fusion of tarsal segments 4 and 5. Expression of bab1^Scer\UAS.cGa under the control of Scer\GAL4^bab1-Pgal4-2 partially rescues the mutant leg phenotypes of bab2^E4/Df(3L)bab^Ar07 flies; there is no sex comb on tarsal segment 3, tarsal segments 4 and 5 are separated by a well-defined joint but there is a small sex comb on tarsal segment 2 (1-2 bristles). Expression of bab2^4.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4^bab1-Pgal4-2 fully rescues the mutant leg phenotypes of bab2^E4/Df(3L)bab^Ar07 flies; tarsal segments 2 and 3 do not have any sex combs and tarsal segments 4 and 5 are always properly separated. bab2^E4/Df(3L)bab^Ar07 females have ovaries of reduced size which contain only a few follicles with abnormal orientation. They are subfertile and lay very few eggs. These defects are partially rescued by bab1^Scer\UAS.cGa expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4^bab1-Pgal4-2 and are fully rescued by bab2^4.Scer\UAS expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4^bab1-Pgal4-2. bab2^E4/Df(3L)bab^Ar07 females show increased abdominal pigmentation; segments A5 and A6 are fully pigmented. This defect is not rescued by bab2^4.Scer\UAS expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4^bab1-Pgal4-2.
