Df(3L)Fpa1/Df(3L)Fpa2 females have a very strong mutant ovary phenotype; the ovaries are very small and no developing follicles are seen. Df(3L)Fpa1/Df(3L)Fpa2 adults have a very strong mutant leg phenotype; tarsal segments TS5 to TS2 are often fused into a single segment. The bristle pattern of TS2-TS4 is transformed. Df(3L)Fpa1/Df(3L)Fpa2 adults have pigmentation defects in the tergites in both sexes; a thorough dark pigmentation is found in A3-A8/A9 and also with low penetrance in A2. The ectopic dark pigmentation in A2 and A3 is patchy and usually restricted to the anterior margin. In Df(3L)Fpa1/Df(3L)Fpa2 females, the two tergite plates of A7 are fused and enlarged and have more large bristles than normal. The A6 tergite is also enlarged. The two rows of thorn bristles are replaced by a different type of bristle, which are longer and twisted. The shape, pigmentation pattern and bristle pattern of the A6 and A7 sternites in Df(3L)Fpa1/Df(3L)Fpa2 females are different from wild-type females and more show similarities to the A6 sternite in wild-type males. Df(3L)babPR72/Df(3L)Fpa2 females show ectopic dark pigmentation in the anterior portion of tergites A3-A8 and also with low penetrance in A2. The ectopic dark pigmentation in A2 and A3 is patchy and usually restricted to the anterior margin. The two rows of thorn bristles are replaced by a different type of bristle, which are longer and twisted in Df(3L)babPR72/Df(3L)Fpa2 females. The shape, pigmentation pattern and bristle pattern of the A6 and A7 sternites in Df(3L)babPR72/Df(3L)Fpa2 females are different from wild-type females and more show similarities to the A6 sternite in wild-type males.
