Significant myoblast fusion fails to occur in rols08232ex18/Df(3L)BK9 embryos - the average number of eve-positive nuclei within a DA1 muscle at stage 15 is 3.3 compared to 9.9 in wild type embryos. Most rols08232ex18/Df(3L)BK9 embryos fail to hatch and eventually die.
While a wild-type DA1 myotube has an average of 15 nuclei at stage 15 (n = 70), its equivalent in embryos homozygous for rols08232ex18 has an average of just 2 (n = 108).
