Expression of p53Scer\UAS.cPa under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF results in a reduced eye, with partial fusion of ommatidia and some loss of bristles. Eye discs show extensive apoptosis. There are no detectable effects on cell cycle distribution or cell size in the eye disc compared to wild type.

Co-expression of lokScer\UAS.cPa and p53Scer\UAS.cPa under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF results in almost complete loss of the eye. Excessive apoptosis is seen in third larval instar eye discs in these animals. Co-expression of lokD303A.Scer\UAS almost completely rescues the eye phenotype caused by expression of p53Scer\UAS.cPa under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF. No apoptosis is found in the eye discs of third instar larvae. Co-expression of either grpScer\UAS.cPa or grpD130A.Scer\UAS does not alter the eye phenotype or number of apoptotic cells in the larval eye disc caused by expression of p53Scer\UAS.cPa under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF. No apoptosis is found in the eye discs of third instar larvae.
