eye | ectopic, with Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1
The average penetrance of ectopic eye induction in eyaSD.SE.Scer\UAS; Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1 flies is 81% (over 8 independent P{UAS-eyaSD.SE} insertions). Ectopic eye patches seen in these flies are larger and more numerous than those seen in eyaScer\UAS.cHa; Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1flies. i.e. - the penetrance and expressivity of ectopic eye phenotypes is higher than that seen in eyaScer\UAS.cHa; Scer\GAL4dpp.PH flies. The penetrance of ectopic eye induction in eyaSD.SE.Scer\UAS; Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1 flies is reduced from 92% (n=325) to 76% (n=322) by heterozygosity for eyaG130 (data from a single, 'strong' P{UAS-eyaSD.SE} insertion). eyaSD.SE.Scer\UAS; Scer\GAL4dpp.PH flies have highly variable wing defects, including ectopic bristles on L3 and in more extreme cases, blistering, and defects in overall shape: Proportion with blistered wings = 41%; proportion with only mild wing defects = 59%. These flies also have increased numbers of scutellar machrochaete (average= 5.6, compared to 4 in wild-type and 6.0 in eyaScer\UAS.cHa; Scer\GAL4dpp.PH flies). Note: all of the above data are averages from 8 independent P{UAS-eyaSD.SE} insertions.
The penetrance of ectopic eye induction in eyaSD.SE.Scer\UAS; Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1 flies is reduced from 92% (n=325) to 80% (n=303) by heterozygosity for eyaG130 (data from a single, 'strong' P{UAS-eyaSD.SE} insertion).
These mutations are designed to mimic phosphorylation of 2 putatuve MAPK sites in eya.
