nurse cell & nucleus | germ-line clone
Homozygous clones in the eye result in small and misshapen eyes which have various differentiation defects, including cuticle scars and ectopic bristles.
Homozygous clones can be recovered in the eye. Females containing homozygous germ-line clones show defects in early oogenesis. The mutant egg chambers contain underreplicated nurse cells whose nuclei retain polytene morphology beyond stage 5. The karyosomes are fragmented or stringy. This allele predominantly affects the karyosome.
Selected as: a mutation that results in a failure to produce eggs when females carry homozygous germ-line clones.
