        Embryos derived from homozygous female germline clones have large anterior holes in the cuticle or are open ventrally, sometimes with a small additional dorsal hole. Dorsal closure does occur in many embryos derived from homozygous female germline clones, but without the stretching of the lateral ectoderm.

        Homozygosity for RCD5 enhances the cno2/cnomis1 phenotype; only 4% of cnomis1 RCD5/cno2 RCD5 double mutant embryos develop into larvae or have a completely closed cuticle, 37% have large anterior holes in the cuticle and 59% are completely open dorsally.
