Larvae and adults expressing Hml^{dsRNA.Scer\UAS} under the control of Scer\GAL4^Hml.PG do not show any obvious developmental defects under normal conditions. Larvae expressing Hml^{dsRNA.Scer\UAS} under the control of Scer\GAL4^Hml.PG form an expanded melanised spot at the site of injury when they are pricked with a thin needle, compared to the limited melanised spot produced in control larvae pricked with a thin needle. This is due to a higher amount of hemolymph bleeding in the mutant larvae. Wasp infection of larvae expressing Hml^{dsRNA.Scer\UAS} under the control of Scer\GAL4^Hml.PG leads to clear melanised wasp egg encapsulation (as occurs in wild-type larvae).
