FlyBase curator comment: this entry is used to capture phenotypic information when the particular allele (or allele combination) used by the author could not be determined but the context of the experiment suggests that the phenotype being described is some kind of loss of function.
Mutant females have fewer progeny that controls. This reduction ranges from 72% of normal progeny in young females (0-3 days old) to 45% of normal progeny in old females (12-15 days old). the majority of embryos deposited by mutant females develop normally past the post-blastoderm stage. Egg deposition also appears to be normal in mutant females. When ovaries are examined in mutant females, no apparent defects in meiosis is seen. Mutant ovaries aged for 9-15 days display more apoptotic egg chambers at stages 7-8 than controls.
