The expression of Nadsynf04110 under the control of Scer\GAL4arm.PU leads to adults exhibiting a small but significant decrease in lifespan, a faster decline in the climbing capacity despite of an initial significantly higher climbing capacity, and leads to seven week old adults exhibiting a significant decrease in heart rate, but no other significant changes in cardiac function - i.e. fraction shortening and levels of arrhythmia, diastolic dysfunction or fibrillations -, as compared to controls. Long term endurance exercise in Nadsynf04110-expressing flies from 2-7 weeks of age does not significantly affect the cardiac performance, but worsens the severity of lifespan and climbing ability phenotypes observed in this genotype, in contrast to controls, which exhibit significant increases in cardiac function, climbing ability, and lifespan in response to this exercise regime.
