Detailed Description
Statement
Reference

A significant proportion of sgoZ1610 mutant spermatids have one large nebenkern with two nuclei of normal size, indicating failure of cytokinesis in one of the meiotic divisions. Further, a smaller amount of spermatids have four nuclei and a large nebenkern, indicating a cytokinetic failure in both meiotic divisions. A small proportion of spermatids have three nuclei, which may be due to failure of cytokinesis in the first meiotic division, followed by budding off of only one daughter cell in the second meiotic division. sgoZ1610/Df(3R)mbc-R1 mutant spermatids exhibit the two and four nuclei phenotypes, but never have three nuclei. Spermatocytes of sgoZ1610 mutants lack an organized central spindle and an F-actin ring throughout ana-telophase. The equatorial anillin band is present but fails to constrict properly. sgoZ1610/Df(3R)mbc-R1 mutants have the same phenotype.
