      Or43b2 flies have no gross behavioral or morphological phenotypes. The ab8A neuron in Or43b2 mutants is not activated in response to fifty-five odorants that activate these neurons in wild-type flies. However, mutant neurons still show spontaneous activity. No significant difference in chemosensory behavior can be detected between Or43b2 mutant and wild-type flies.
