The Doc{}A15 insertion is 5' truncated by 827bp and is located in the 4th/5th exon (depending on isoform) of alt, oriented in the sense direction of the alt transcription unit. This insertion affects expression of alt and also neighboring downstream genes; 0-2 hour embryos from eggs laid by females homozygous for the Doc{}A15 insertion show no expression of alt, Mps1 or CG7523 mRNA (in contrast to wild-type controls).
Although the Doc{}altA15 insertion is within alt, evidence suggests that the mutant phenotype caused by the insertion is due to an effect on the upstream gene, ald, and not due to an effect on alt; the Doc{}altA15 chromosome fails to complement ald1 and is rescued by ald+t4.2, and altexcision18 (a mutation affecting only alt) complements the meiotic nondisjunction phenotype of the Doc{}altA15 chromosome.
Associated with: altA15.
FlyBase curator comment: two alleles are associated with Doc{}altA15 in the database; altA15, which represents the insertion within the alt transcription unit, and aldA15, which represents the mutant phenotype caused by the effect of the insertion on the ald gene.
