Mutant embryos exhibit a mild central nervous system (CNS). When homozygous germ-line clones are generated, neural development is severely disrupted about half the time. In a quarter of embryos commissures are fused. In the remainder of embryos no development is observed. Embryos also exhibit cuticle phenotypes. In the most extreme situation, animals lack the head skeleton and have expanded ventral denticle belts, others have defects in the head skeleton.. Paternal rescue is seen in these germ-line clones.
