Expression of mnmScer\UAS.cJa under the control of Scer\GAL4en-e16E results in reduced viability at 18oC and larval or pupal lethality at 25o or 29oC. At 18oC, many larvae have small black melanotic masses in their epidermis. Adult escapers have gross patterning defects in the dorsal abdomen and also often have melanotic masses in the ventral epidermis. The wings of these animals are patterned normally, but the posterior compartment is reduced in size compared to controls.
The wing discs of wandering third instar larvae that are expressing mnmScer\UAS.cJa under the control of Scer\GAL4en-e16E show an increase in activated Caspase-3 and in the number of BrdU-positive cells in the posterior compartment.
