FlyBase curator comment: this entry is used to capture phenotypic information when the particular allele (or allele combination) used by the author could not be determined but the context of the experiment suggests that the phenotype being described is some kind of loss of function.
spn-Funspecified oocyte nuclei often exhibit fragmented DNA that can be thread-like in appearance.
spn-Funspecified mutants exhibit considerably shorter and thicker bristles compared to wild-type. In addition to aberrant length and width, the morphology of the bristles is altered; they do no have finely tapered ends, and, in some extreme cases, the direction of bristle growth at some points along the bristle shaft is altered.
In stage 9 spn-Funspecified mutant oocytes exhibit an abnormal accumulation of tubulin and microtubules around the oocyte nuclear membrane. The oocyte nucleus does, however, move normally to the dorsoanterior corner in the mutant egg chambers. In 60% of spn-Funspecified mutant egg chambers, small irregularly shaped actin aggregates and actin clump are found along the anterior ring below the actin-rich cortical layer.
