Imprecise excision of the P{EP} element, resulting in a deletion that spans from 385bp upstream to 1038bp downstream of the wuho translation start site. The deletion includes 1041bp of coding region from the wuho gene and a region of the 5'UTR of the }Top3β gene. A 632bp fragment of the P{EP} element is left behind.

wuho7 females yield half the number of embryos in comparison to wild-type females and 80% of the yielded embryos hatch. In wuho7 mutant ovaries, 80% of ovarioles appear to undergo normal oogenesis but 20% of ovarioles show cystocyte over-proliferation, resulting in more than 16 germ cells in a single egg chamber.
wuho7 mutant testes contain no mature spermatozoa in the seminal vesicles and no sperm bundles are visible. At the early elongating stage wuho7 testes contain abnormal vesicles and mitochondrial derivatives with a fibrous structure which are not seen in wild-type testes. There is an accumulation of pre-meiotic cysts at the elongating stage.
wuho7 has male sterile phenotype, non-suppressible by Top3βEYFP
Expression of Top3βT:Avic\GFP-EYFP does not rescue the wuho7 male sterile phenotype.
