eye, with Scer\GAL4GMR.PY
Expression of X11LScer\UAS.cMa in the developing optic lobe and eye disc, driven by Scer\GAL4MZ1369, results in the formation of rough eyes. Rhabdomeres in these flies are not restricted to the distal side of the fenestrated membrane, as in wild-type flies, but are found beneath this structure, displacing the lamina.
Pupal eyes that express X11LScer\UAS.cMa under the control of Scer\GAL4MZ1369 frequently display fused ommatidia, misplaced bristle complexes and reduced numbers of cone cells from four to two or even to a single cell. One or both of the primary pigment cells are sometimes missing after apparently having failed to differentiate properly.
Expression of X11LScer\UAS.cMa under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PY results in defects in eye morphology. Eye discs of these animals show an increase in cell death compared to wild type.
