Animals expressing LIMK1ΔNgoMIV.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4ap-md544 show a temperature-sensitive phenotype. At 28oC, all progeny die, at 25oC most animals die as pupae (rare escapers at this temperature have severe wing defects), and at 23oC, the progeny are fully viable.
Scer\GAL4ap-md544>LIMK1ΔNgoMIV.Scer\UAS flies raised at 23oC show planar polarity defects; the majority of these flies show a chaotic wing hair orientation pattern in the region of Scer\GAL4ap-md544 expression, in which hairs point in orientations independent of their neighbours. 10% of these flies have wings that show a whorled planar cell polarity. Examination of wing prehair emergence shows that hairs in affected regions initiate aberrantly.
