UASt regulatory sequences drive expression of an inverted repeat of part of the scf gene. The scf repeat sequences are separated from each other by a 150bp spacer fragment derived from the Avic\GFP gene.

Escaper male adults expressing scfdsRNA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4Act5C.PI have ectopic bristles on the ventral side of segment A6, indicating anterior transformation (A6 to A5).

Females expressing scfdsRNA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4Act5C.PI are viable.

Expression of scfdsRNA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4Act5C.PI results in a dramatic reduction in male viability; most males die during the pupal stage, and those that do survive to adulthood die shortly after eclosion. Expression of scfdsRNA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4Act5C.PI has a variable and less pronounced effect on female viability.
