emcG4.1/Df(3L)Fpa1 embryos look normal at early embryonic stages but at stage 17 the shape of the head and midgut appears abnormal. Head development is retarded around stage 15; the dorsal fold does not migrate anteriorly so that the pharyngeal region remains exposed as an anterior protrusion on the dorsal side of the head, even after denticle belts have formed. The midgut fails to develop and appears as a thick smooth tube without constrictions in most stage 17 embryos. Dorsal closure does not occur properly in the mutant embryos, so that the dorsal midline is inappropriately shaped, pinched or puckered. The fas2-positive longitudinal tracts in the central nervous system appear normal.
Selected as: A mutation that is lethal in combination with Df(3L)Fpa1.
