Total bouton number at the neuromuscular junction is significantly decreased compared to controls in mir-8Δ1/mir-8Δ2 larvae.

Female mir-8jk22/mir-8Δ1 flies exhibit alterations in the spatial pigmentation pattern of the dorsal abdomen, most evident in the A6 segment. At 25[o]C, rather than having pigmentation throughout most of the segment as is seen in wild type flies, the pigmentation in mutant females is widest at the dorsal midline and tapers off laterally.

Female mir-8Δ1/Df(2R)ED2747 flies exhibit alterations in the spatial pigmentation pattern of the dorsal abdomen, most evident in the A6 segment. At 25[o]C, rather than having pigmentation throughout most of the segment as is seen in wild type flies, the pigmentation in mutant females is widest at the dorsal midline and tapers off laterally.

mir-8Δ1/mir-8Δ2 and mir-8Δ1/Df(2R)mir-8Δ3 animals show reduced survival during pupal and early adult stages, either failing to emerge from the pupal case or dying within the first 24 hours of eclosion.

mir-8Δ1/mir-8Δ2 and mir-8Δ1/Df(2R)mir-8Δ3 adult escapers often have wing defects (the wings are not properly unfolded) or leg defects.
