Detailed Description

Embryos hatch at a normal rate from gwl6a/+ mothers.

Syncitial embryos from gwl6a/+ mothers show a low frequency of nuclei that fail to enter mitosis when the majority of nuclei are already in pro/metaphase.

gwl6a mutants are sterile in both males and females.

gwl6a/gwlSr3 mutants produce a gwlSr3 phenotype, i.e female fertility is restored.

gwl6a/gwlSr6 mutants produce a gwlSr3 phenotype, i.e female fertility is restored.

A significant proportion of gwl6a/Df(3L)gwl3b cells exhibit polyploid mitotic figures. They also exhibit significant pre-anaphase delay with hyper-condensed chromosomes.

Scer\GAL4mat.αTub67C.T:Hsim\VP16-mediated expression of poloScer\UAS.P\T.T:Hsap\MYC in gwl6a/+ mothers results in a marked decrease in embryo hatching rate compared to either single genotype.

Scer\GAL4mat.αTub67C.T:Hsim\VP16-mediated expression of poloScer\UAS.P\T.T:Hsap\MYC in embryos from gwl6a/+ mothers show a significant fraction of nuclei that fail to enter mitosis when the majority of nuclei are already in pro/metaphase. Defective nuclei are characterized by absence of a mitotic spindle, very strong lamin staining, and uncondensed chromosomes.

gwl6a/+ partially rescues the viability of embryos from mtsXE-2258/+, polo11/+ mothers.

Scer\GAL4mat.αTub67C.T:Hsim\VP16-mediated expression of gwlScer\UAS.P\T.T:Hsap\MYC largely rescues the female sterility of gwl6a/gwlSr18 mutants.

Scer\GAL4mat.αTub67C.T:Hsim\VP16-mediated expression of gwlNLSmut.Scer\UAS.P\T.T:Hsap\MYC fails to rescue the female sterility of gwl6a/gwlSr18 mutants.

Scer\GAL4mat.αTub67C.T:Hsim\VP16-mediated expression of gwlScer\UAS.P\T.T:SV40\nls2.T:Hsap\MYC fails to rescue the female sterility of gwl6a/gwlSr18 mutants.
