Down-regulation of bi in the posterior compartment of the A/P boundary through the expression of bidsRNA.Scer\UAS by Scer\GAL4en-e16E or Scer\GAL4Scer\FRT.Rnor\CD2.Act5C leads to strong apical fold formation along the A/P boundary of the larval wing pouch. At the end of ontogenesis, a big gap serpates A and P compartments in adult wings.
In contrast, anterior reduction of bi through expression of bidsRNA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1 does not cause aberrant folding of the larval wing pouch and does not cause gap formation in the adult wing.
Clonal analysis reveals that posterior reduction of bi is sufficient for A/P fold formation. Posterior clones in which bi is reduced by bidsRNA.Scer\UAS (under the control of Scer\GAL4en-e16E) form an apical fold where the clone runs along the A/P boundary.
