Only 1% of ovaries in females carrying homozygous germline clones show late stage egg chambers. The oocyte fails to develop (the egg chambers contain only polyploid nuclei) and cell division is disrupted in these females, with the egg chambers having a disorganised pattern of ring canals and with two-thirds of the egg chambers having fewer than the normal 16 cells.
