Expression of AscizKK103770 under the control of Scer\GAL4en.PU results in shrunken and curved wings in which the posterior compartment (the region of Scer\GAL4en.PU expression) is significantly reduced compared to the anterior compartment. The flies also show a "held-out wings" phenotype.

Mitotic index is increased in the posterior compartment (compared to the anterior compartment) of the wing disc of animals expressing AscizKK103770 under the control of Scer\GAL4en.PU. Mitotic figures show a reduction in prophase and a pronounced increase in anaphase. The total proportion of cells in metaphase is not altered, but the proportion of cells containing a marker for early metaphase is increased, suggesting that mitotic delay starts during late metaphase. Severe spindle alignment and chromosome alignment defects are seen in the dividing cells. Cells are seen extruded from the basal surface of the wing disc and an increase in the number of apoptotic cells is seen.

Clones in the wing disc expressing AscizKK103770 under the control of Scer\GAL4Act.PU are reduced in size compared to control clones.

Co-expression of ctpScer\UAS.cBa suppresses the reduction in size of the posterior compartment of the wing (relative to the anterior compartment) which is seen in flies expressing AscizKK103770 under the control of Scer\GAL4en.PU.

The increased mitotic index seen in the posterior compartment (compared to the anterior compartment) of the wing disc of animals expressing AscizKK103770 under the control of Scer\GAL4en.PU is suppressed by co-expression of ctpScer\UAS.cBa. The increase in the number of apoptotic cells is also suppressed.
