UASt regulatory sequences drive expression of an inverted repeat.
The expression of stwKK105443 under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR42D04 severely decreases male mating success (males fail repeatedly to grasp the female abdomen with their sex combs when attempting to mount and copulate), severely decreases sex comb melanization (the sex combs appear translucent) and results in thinner and smoother sex comb teeth, as compared to controls. These flies also lack aedeagus melanization.
Expression under the control of either Scer\GAL442D04.A or Scer\GAL442D04.E, but not under the control of Scer\GAL442D04.C or Scer\GAL442D04.D, severely impairs both the male copulation success and sex comb melanization, but does not affect aedeagus melanization.
