UASt regulatory sequences drive expression of an inverted repeat.
Larvae and adult escapers expressing ND-18KK108847 under the control of Scer\GAL4Act.PU exhibit severe locomotor impairment and uptake much less solid food, although adults uptake similar amounts of liquid food (sucrose solution), as compared to controls. Adults are severely short lived and exhibit progressive abdomen shrinkage whether fed solid or liquid food, although these defects are more severe with solid food; lifespans under solid food or starvation are comparable; there is dramatic pericerebral fat body depletion under a solid food diet.
Adults expressing ND-18KK108847 under the control of either Scer\GAL4Mhc.PK or Scer\GAL4elav.PLu are short lived. Individuals expressing ND-18KK108847 under the control of Scer\GAL4Mhc.PK also show a wide range of structural abnormalities in the indirect flight muscles, including dispersed cristae, onion-like swirling membranes, swollen mitochondria, sparse matrix and irregular cristae densities.
