Sense-antisense transcription of a sxc cDNA encoding the 420th to 640th amino acid residues (driven by two convergent arrays of UAS regulatory sequences) results in double stranded RNA (dsRNA) expression.

      Expression of P{Sym-UAS-sxc} under the control of Scer\GAL4tub reduces viability in a P{Sym-UAS-sxc}-insert dependent manner. For the P{Sym-UAS-sxc}1m, P{Sym-UAS-sxc}2m, P{Sym-UAS-sxc}5m and P{Sym-UAS-sxc}8m insertions, this lethality is dramatically enhanced in a sxc3/+ background, with dead male pharate adults exhibiting ectopic sex combs in the case of P{Sym-UAS-sxc}1m and P{Sym-UAS-sxc}2m.
