Flies transheterozygous for sxc³ and sxc⁶ or sxc⁷ develop into pharate adults showing a typical sxc mutant phenotype.

sxc²/sxc³ flies are viable and fertile, but exhibit wing abnormalities suggestive of wing-to-haltere transformations.

Expression of P{Sym-UAS-sxc} under the control of Scer\GAL4^tub in a sxc³/+ background reduces viability in a P{Sym-UAS-sxc}-insert dependent manner, with dead male pharate adults exhibiting ectopic sex combs in the case of P{Sym-UAS-sxc}1m and P{Sym-UAS-sxc}2m.

Does not affect the position effect variegation (PEV) at the w locus caused by In(1)w^m4 or PEV at the B locus caused by Dp(1;Y)B^SCV.
