Flies transheterozygous for sxc3 and sxc6 or sxc7 develop into pharate adults showing a typical sxc mutant phenotype.

sxc2/sxc3 flies are viable and fertile, but exhibit wing abnormalities suggestive of wing-to-haltere transformations.

Expression of P{Sym-UAS-sxc} under the control of Scer\GAL4tub in a sxc3/+ background reduces viability in a P{Sym-UAS-sxc}-insert dependent manner, with dead male pharate adults exhibiting ectopic sex combs in the case of P{Sym-UAS-sxc}1m and P{Sym-UAS-sxc}2m.

Does not affect the position effect variegation (PEV) at the w locus caused by In(1)wm4 or PEV at the B locus caused by Dp(1;Y)BSCV.
