Description

Imprecise excision of the P{EP}EP1526 insertion, resulting in a deletion that is predicted to produce a truncated pcm protein of 1461 amino acid residues.

Comprises a deletion of 1522bp, resulting in a frame-shift mutation. Mutant protein is a C-terminal truncation of 197 aa relative to wildtype plus an extra 46 aa encoded from intergenic sequences. The 3' UTR is also deleted.

pcm3 is cold sensitive.

Wounded pcm5 homozygous flies have reduced survival rates compared to control flies at both 19[o]C and 25[o]C. The clotting process in mutants follows a similar time course to that of controls.

pcm3 homozygous mutant females lay fewer eggs than controls and many egg chambers degenerate around stage 9.

pcm3 males are compromised in their fertility, producing approximately 60% of the progeny of control males at 25[o]C.

Testes from pcm3 males are slightly shorter and thinner compared to control males.

pcm3 males produce fewer sperm (68% of wildtype).
