The FRT cassette has been excised, allowing the QUAS regulatory sequences (followed by a minimal Hsp70 promoter) to drive expression of the temperature sensitive shi protein.

      Flies expressing shits1.-FRT.Ncra\QUAS in all GH146-positive olfactory projection neurons under the control of Ncra\QFGH146.PP show a significant reduction in olfactory attraction to ethyl acetate compared to wild-type controls.

      Flies expressing shits1.-FRT.Ncra\QUAS in only anterodorsal GH146-positive olfactory projection neurons under the control of Ncra\QFGH146.PP (the flies contain Scer\FLP1Scer\UAS.cDa expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4acj6-PG63 which allows excision of the Scer\FRT cassette in shits1.Scer\FRT.Ncra\QUAS - to produce shits1.-FRT.Ncra\QUAS - in only the Scer\GAL4acj6-PG63 expression domain, limiting expression to the anterodorsal GH146-positive olfactory projection neurons) show normal olfactory attraction to ethyl acetate.
