Expression of rapScer\UAS.cKa in larval brains (under the control of Scer\GAL4repo) results in a significant decrease in surface glia number. There is no change in the mitotic index or apoptosis in these mutants, indicating a decrease in differentiation.

Expression of rapScer\UAS.cKa in larval brains (under the control of Scer\GAL4repo) results in a significant increase in the overall number of neurons in third instar larval brains and the number of surface neurons. The ectopic neuroblasts formed in these mutants are proliferative and maintain the potential to give rise to neurons.

Expression of rapScer\UAS.cKa under the control of Scer\GAL4repo in MARCM clones within surface glia results in only 26% of the MARCM clone being repo positive. However, examination of the optic lobe or deeper regions of the larval brain such as the neuropile lineages results in 81% of the MARCM clones being repo positive.
