Detailed Description

MerB2 mosaic eyes are similar in shape and patterning to control mosaic eyes. Overgrown MerB2 mosaic eyes contain significantly more ommatidia than control eyes.

Third instar larval eye discs, antennal discs, and wing discs of MerB2 hemizygotes are very similar in size to those from control larvae. The normal complement of differentiated photoreceptors is observed in MerB2 mutant eye disc tissue.

Eyes comprised almost exclusively of MerB2 mutant cells are overgrown relative to control eyes.

MerB2 mutant tissue in pupal eye discs contain a large number of supernumerary interommatidial cells, but have a mostly regular hexagonal lattice.

Expression of BacA\p35GMR.PH in MerB2 mutant eye tissue results in large numbers of supernumerary interommatidial bristles.
