Expression of Gr5aScer\UAS.cDa in ab1C neurons, under the control of Scer\GAL4Gr21a.9.323 or Scer\GAL4Gr63a.PF, is sufficient to confer trehalose response in the ab1C neuron. Application of sucrose does not alter the firing rate of ab1C neuron expressing Gr5a. These neurons respond to application of glucose, m-glucoside, and melezitose.
A Gr63a1 mutant background does not alter the response to trehalose, glucose, m-glucoside, or melezitose in flies expressing Gr5aScer\UAS.cDa in ab1C neurons, under the control of Scer\GAL4Gr21a.9.323 or Scer\GAL4Gr63a.PF.
Co-expression of Gr64fScer\UAS.cFa, Gr64eScer\UAS.cFa, Gr61aScer\UAS.cFa, Gr64bScer\UAS.cJa, Gr64cScer\UAS.cFa, or Gr64dScer\UAS.cFa does not result in any significant alteration in the response to trehalose, m-glucoside, melezitose and glucose, in flies expressing Gr5aScer\UAS.cDa in ab1C neurons, under the control of Scer\GAL4Gr21a.9.323 or Scer\GAL4Gr63a.PF.
Co-expression of Gr61aScer\UAS.cFa does not result in any significant alteration in the response to trehalose, m-glucoside, and melezitose, in flies expressing Gr5aScer\UAS.cDa in ab1C neurons, under the control of Scer\GAL4Gr21a.9.323 or Scer\GAL4Gr63a.PF.
Expression of Gr5aScer\UAS.cDa under the control of Scer\GAL4Gr5a.8.5 rescues the reduction in the electrophysiological response to the sugars trehalose, m-α-glucoside, glucose and melezitose that is seen in Gr5aΔEP5 flies.
Expression of Gr5aScer\UAS.cDa under the control of Scer\GAL4Gr5a.8.5 increases the mean proboscis extension response to all sugars whose responses are reduced in Gr5aΔEP5 flies.
