Animals expressing DrVDRC.cUa in small genital disc clones under the control of Scer\GAL4Pen-NP6333 display normal morphology. Discs with larger clones display a lack of mesodermal cell recruitment and malformation in disc morphology.

Males expressing DrVDRC.cUa under the control of Scer\GAL4Pen-NP6333 display defects in internal and external genital structures. 63% display deformed ejaculatory ducts, small accessory glands, and malformed vas deferens. 15% had more severe phenotypes in the internal genitalia including severely deformed ejaculatory ducts, absent accessory glands, absent vas deferens, and unattached testes. The apodeme and hypandrium of the penis apparatus are abnormal in 77% of males. These structures are smaller than in controls, and the hypandrial processes are deformed. The claspers of males are smaller compared to controls, with fewer bristles on average, and claspers lack the long, mechanosensory bristle. The genital arch is affected in these animals. Males show significantly misshapen posterior lobes. The lateral plates are smaller, with fewer bristles between the tip of the lateral plate and the base of the posterior lobe.
