    Description

Contains a 4bp deletion of nucleotides 793-796 in the open reading frame, causing a frameshift predicted to truncate the protein after 264 of 1464 amino acids, removing the PDZ domains, aPKC-binding region and C-terminal domain.

    Detailed Description
    Statement
    Reference

bazGD21 homozygotes are zygotic lethal. This is rescued by the presence of Dp(1;Y)W73 (which contains the baz open reading frame).

Germband elongation is strongly reduced in bazGD21 mutants. Mutant cells engage in fewer rearrangements and display a reduction in both neighbor exchange and rosette formation. Cell movements that do occur in bazGD21 mutants show a moderate loss of directionality. Some cells begin to apically constrict in late stage 7, leading to the formation of ectopic grooves in stage 8. These defects are not due to apoptosis.
