Imprecise excision of P{SUPor-P}Coq2KG09818 results in the deletion of 981bp of Coq2, uncovering the 5' end regulatory sequence and the first and part of the second exon of Coq2.
Coq2152-2 homozygotes exhibit developmental defects as compared with wild-type. From 36 hours after egg deposition, the body size of Coq2152-2 mutants starts to be smaller than that of wild-type. The body size difference increases with development. By the time of 48 hours after egg deposition, the body size of homozygous mutants is only about half of the wild-type larva in length. Development of most homozygotes arrests at the 1st instar larval stage as judged by the body size. About 6.7% of homozygotes survive to 192 hours after egg deposition as small larvae, when most wild-type animals have developed into pupae.
Coq2152-2 homozygotes are not defective in food-taking during development.
The maximum, median and mean lifespan of Coq2152-2 heterozygotes are significantly increased in both males and females compared to wild-type controls.
Thirty days after eclosion, Coq2152-2 heterozygous males and females show a significant increase in climbing ability compared to equivalently-aged wild-type controls. Fifteen days after eclosion, heterozygotes do not show major differences in climbing ability compared to wild-type controls.
