Smg6292 mutant cells are defective in cell proliferation when in competition with wild type cells, as assayed by examination of mitotic clones within the eye. However no proliferation defects are seen when eyes are completely mutant for Smg6292.

Smg6292 mutants exhibit a mean EJC amplitude of 41.3nA compared to 75.2nA in controls.

Application of FM1-43 dye after a 20Hz, 1 minute stimulation reveals a reduction in dye uptake in Smg6292 mutants.
