Wdr241/Wdr241 or Wdr241/Df(3R)BSC547 females have small ovaries and have a 90% reduction in eggs laid per day compared to heterozygous controls. Wdr241/Wdr241 germline clones have reduced egg chamber growth (though no oocyte loss phenotype). Wdr241/Wdr241 or Wdr241/Df(3R)BSC547 mutants are smaller than heterozygote siblings, with a significant decrease in body weight. Wdr241/Wdr241 clones in both fat body and somatically derived follicle cells have significantly decreased nuclear size compared to heterozygous cells. Egg chambers from well fed Wdr241/Wdr241 females and Wdr241/Wdr241 larval fat bodies show activation of autophagy, with inappropriate accumulation of autolysosomes; larval fat bodies (under both fed and starved conditions) lack autolysosome acidification and do not show autophagic flux.
