Scer\GAL41151 singGD3396 pharate adults show a myoblast fusion defect at the stage following the formation of F-actin foci.

Animals expressing Mef2dsRNA.IR2.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL41151 develop normally but remain in their pupal cases and eventually die, unable to eclose. The animals lack essentially all major somatic muscles in their bodies. In the thorax, only a few escaper muscles and some miniature muscles remain, while in the abdomen, virtually all the transverse and longitudinal muscles are absent. Myoblast fusion is stalled in these animals.

The wavy morphology of the dorso-ventral muscle myofibrils of pupae expressing Mef2GD5039 under the control of Scer\GAL4Act88F.PB is worsened if the animals also carry Mef2dsRNA.IR2.Scer\UAS.

Expression of Mef2dsRNA.IR2.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4Act79B.PB results in changes in morphology in the tergal depressor of the trochanter muscle, including disorganised myofibrils, misshapen fibres and a reduction in overall muscle size.

Expression of Mef2dsRNA.IR2.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4Act88F.PB results in collapsed dorsal longitudinal muscles and disorganised myofibrils.

Flies expressing Mef2dsRNA.IR2.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4EDTP-DJ694 at 29[o]C have a shortened lifespan.
