Imprecise excision of the progenitor insertion resulting in a deletion that removes sequence encoding the first 992 amino acid residues of Caf1-180. A portion of the original insertion remains.
Hemizygous males undergo normal embryonic development under rich food conditions, but die 48 hours after hatching as second instar larvae, when they are significantly smaller than their wild-type siblings. Imaginal discs are not detected in the mutant larvae. Mutant salivary glands contain a normal number of nuclei at 40 hours after hatching, however, the nuclei are smaller than normal. At 44 hours after hatching, incorporation of BrdU is reduced in mutant salivary glands compared to wild type.
Mutant larvae survive for at least 120 hours after hatching on amino acid-deprived food medium.
Heterozygosity for asf11 has no effect on the ability of Caf1-180Scer\UAS.P\T.cKa expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4Act5C.PI to rescue the lethality of Caf1-1803/Y males.
