Heat shock promoter sequences drive expression of the kuk coding sequence and part of its 3' untranslated region.
The longitudinal muscle cells of 3 day old adult flies expressing 6 genomic copies of kukhs.PB display nuclear phenotypes usually only observed during aging, with loss of peripheral heterochromatin, separation of the inner and outer nuclear membrane, accumulation of ring like structures and a strong increase of dark material in the nucleoplasm are all observed.
Expression of kukhs.PB induces lobulation of the nuclear membrane in stage 9 embryos.
Flies expressing 4 or 6 genomic copies of kukhs.PB have a reduced lifespan compared to controls.
